Providing Innovative Health & Safety Solutions

Environmental Risk Limited’s Industrial Hygiene - Health and Safety Services features technical staff with experience and training in regulatory compliance auditing procedures, compliance assistance programs, and familiarity with federal environmental laws and state-implemented regulations. The primary objective of ERL’s Health & Safety Services group is to assist employers in the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and development of strategies to minimize or eliminate occupational hazards present at a facility. Utilizing experience, training and quantitative measurement of the chemical, physical, ergonomic or biological stressors present in the workplace,
our staff are well versed in the application of industrial hygiene safety and health principals. Compliance with regulatory standards is achieved by providing cooperative support to industry in the delivery of comprehensive safety and health services.

The following areas are among those services provided:

Outreach Education and Training
ERL staff includes United States Department of Labor Authorized Out-Reach General Industry Educators. They have considerable training and experience and are thoroughly versed in all general industry standards. They will develop and deliver industry-specific educational programs to groups both large and small and will tailor the training sessions to a client’s unique needs.

Regulatory Assistance
ERL's staff will assist facilities' compliance efforts with a variety of regulatory standards including State Department of Health, State Department of Environmental Protection, Federal Department of Labor OSHA and Federal EPA, as well as collateral standards including NFPA, NIOSH, MSHA, ANSI, and National Building Code. The following are some of those standards typically evaluated for compliance:

  • Air Contaminants (29 CFR 1910.1000)
  • Asbestos (29 CFR 1910.1001)
  • Occupational Noise Exposure (29 CFR 1910.95)
  • Hazard Communication (29 CFR 1910.1200)

Exposure Monitoring
Our staff can perform various analytical methods required to detect the presence of hazardous material(s) and determine the extent of the exposure, performing both personnel exposure monitoring and ambient exposure monitoring to assist industry to ensure regulatory compliance and a healthful worksite.

Policy and program reviews are performed in addition to the actual monitoring, and implementation assistance and training are provided as needed subsequent to the results of the monitoring.

Collateral Regulatory Compliance Assistance to Industry
Trade groups and associations often impose specific operational objectives on employers within the industry they represent. An organization’s ability to receive recognition from those associations in some cases can dramatically impact on their ability to do business. Our Industrial Hygiene Health and Safety Staff strive to support all industries in a broad based fashion providing compliance assistance with all regulatory standards or guidelines that impact on that work setting.

Asbestos
Asbestos inspections as well as preparation of Operations and Maintenance Programs are performed by ERL’s industrial hygiene staff.

Hazardous Materials
Because so many facilities, both institutional and industrial, deal with hazardous materials covering all areas of the spectrum of usage, the relationship of employee safety with regard to hazardous materials is an especially important one. This is an area that combines OSHA standards, EPA environmental standards, and state regulations. The presence of hazardous materials in the workplace requires that facilities ensure that they have adequate staff training, appropriate hazard communication, emergency response planning, appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and training of staff in its use, spill response plans, in addition to identified basic environmental and safety procedures in the management of the hazardous materials. ERL staff have assisted a variety of facilities with inspections, audits, reviews, plan development and implementation, and training session to address the issue of hazardous materials in the workplace.

Our support services extend beyond normal use situations and encompass emergency response activities. We have developed and delivered emergency preparedness education to industry.

Work Place Violence
ERL’s Health & Safety Services department has considerable experience in identifying potential sources and situations that may lead to workplace violence. With workplace violence becoming a growing problem in today’s society, and incidents taking place in all types of environments, addressing the situation with preventive measures becomes increasingly important. Our specialists can help you assess your facility and assist you in taking preventative steps through training and program development.

Additional Areas of Support
There are many other areas which impact employees in the workplace that need periodic identification, plan development assistance, training, and similar services that are provided by ERL’s staff. The list below reflects the kind of support that can be provided, but it is by no means an all-inclusive list.

  • Safety and Health Plan Review
  • Education
    • Any and All OSHA General Industry Standards
  • Indoor Air Quality Assessment
  • Hazard Communication Evaluation
